Review: The Doctor’s Secret by Heidi Cullinan

I’ve been a fan of Heidi Cullinan’s books for years!  I had no idea this series was releasing until I saw this first book pop up on my Amazon suggestions on release.  Of course, I had to jump on it and buy it.  This is the start of a small town m/m romance series centered around a hospital.

THE DOCTOR’S SECRET starts out extremely cute for me.  We have the super star surgeon moving from Texas to this middle of nowhere town when he could’ve gone anywhere.  Why did he choose them?  He needed a different pace of life and I could totally relate to what he was feeling.  He was also born in Taiwan and moved to the States with his family when he was young.  I really liked seeing some of those struggles to fit in highlighted in this novel.  He ends up falling for his surgical nurse, who is a local of the small town and with no desire of moving away.  They are so adorable together and you could feel the chemistry from the beginning.

What probably made this book drag just a little for me is the conflict.  I didn’t think there were major conflicts between the main characters or even personal issues they had to overcome to want to be together.  The thing that looms between them is the fact that they work together and the hospital has a no-dating policy.  I’ve worked places where this was a thing so I didn’t understand the big fight against the policy as I think it’s pretty standard.  I wanted more from the story besides that conflict and I don’t think it delivered that for me.

That being said, I did enjoy the story and the romance between our main characters.  Like I said, THE DOCTOR’S SECRET is just adorable and it’s left me itching to read the stories about the group of friends we are introduced in this book.  I’m anticipating the next two books already!
