With Adrien and Jake, there is angst, there is uncertainty, there are ups and downs that make for a rollercoaster ride. All this together makes for a riveting read and Lanyon’s stellar voice and characters make it a top read. ~ Under the Covers
Dear Josh Lanyon,
You are awesome. Adrien is awesome. And despite the fact that Jake can be a total penis head sometimes, I think he’s pretty awesome too.
This is me hoping for more books in this series. Something this good needs to go on forever. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself because I’m bummed that the Adrien English series has come to an end. This series will definitely be one I return to again and again.
Love,
Me
As the last book in the Adrien English series (*sobs*), Lanyon takes a different, but very smart approach to this book. Adrien has just undergone heart surgery and is bed-ridden and recovering. But it shouldn’t surprise readers that mystery and mayhem has found its way to Adrien once again. This time, it hits a little closer to home. As the Cloak and Dagger Bookstore that Adrien runs undergoes some renovations, a half-century old skeleton appears on the third level beneath the floor. Naturally, Adrien is concerned about this, but when the cops don’t take him seriously, he once again turns to the person who has always had his back – Jake “Penis Head” Riordan (Yes, I dubbed him that).
Major changes have happened to Jake. He has come out of the closet, told his parents of his sexuality, divorced his wife and is now a private detective. Adrien hires Jake to figure out this mess and amidst all that, readers finally get to see Jake’s feelings for once. Let me tell you, it’s worth it! THE DARK TIDE is hands down the best of the series. Lanyon has worked to this point and it really is the perfect ending to a phenomenal series. I would even go as far and say that this is probably one of the best M/M series, period.
What Lanyon does with this series is unique and impressive. I love it when characters have to work to be together. It’s much more interesting than them simply falling in love and there you go, a happily ever after. With Adrien and Jake, there is angst, there is uncertainty, there are ups and downs that make for a rollercoaster ride. All this together makes for a riveting read and Lanyon’s stellar voice and characters make it a top read.
Now I know I said I wanted more books in the series, and I still do. But THE DARK TIDE perfectly wraps up all the conflicts that Jake and Adrien have experienced thus far. I truly felt that everything was right in the world after finishing this book and that kind of satisfaction is hard to come by when you love a series so much. I have to admire an author who knows when to stop a series, despite its success and popularity.
I could go on and on about this series and my love for Adrien and yes, even Jake. Though Jake can be frustrating sometimes, Adrien gives as good as he gets too. In the end, Jake’s admission of love is sweet and utterly perfect, staying so true to his character that it just makes him all the more endearing.
If you want a series that has a great romance, some angst, stellar writing and a kickass mystery, then Josh Lanyon has got you covered.
