A friend recommended this book to me and I kept putting it off. But I finally decided to read it and I’m so glad that I did! Thank you Gokce for the amazing book rec!

I’ve read some Juliana Stone books before along with her other pen names but I think this series is definitely her best work. I love the combination of small-town romance with a little bit of bad boy charm. But probably the best thing about this series is the amount of heart and emotion that Stone puts into this story. THE CHRISTMAS HE LOVED HER broke my heart. I didn’t expect this book to be as dark as it was, but it’s that grief and that torment that makes this story so meaningful.

Jake Edwards is home for the holidays and since the death of his brother, he hasn’t visited his brother’s widow, Raine. Raine is still drowning in her grief and she holds a lot of animosity towards Jake for leaving her when she needed him most. Raine’s hurt is so all-consuming that it becomes too much to bear. Even reading this book was heavy and these two have so much to work through for even a chance of a relationship but I do think it’s worth reading. Jake and Raine have really pure hearts and I found myself cheering them on as fell in love. This book is very much about healing as it is about love. Juliana Stone did a really good job of capturing the emotions in this book.

Since this was the first book that I read in this series, I will definitely have to go back and read the other books. Like I mentioned earlier, I think Juliana Stone found something special with this series and I’m surprised she didn’t continue writing more in this world. The combination of sweet small-town romance with the heavy emotions is definitely what makes this series stand out amongst the crowd.
