I’m a big fan of Bec McMaster so I will read pretty much anything she writes. The Dark Arts series is much like her London Steampunk one. Although it follows different characters in a different world, there are some similarities like the setting and the complex worldbuilding. You’ll also see great characterization from McMaster, as I think she writes some of the best heroes and heroines out there.

Speaking of the main couple, Ianthe and Rathbourne are a really good pair. At first, I wondered how they would get along because they seem to be polar opposites, but they do have a past that binds them together, which helps in moving things along. I was a particular fan of Rathbourne. He has quite a few great lines, some of which are very steamy. He’s definitely a hero that you need to watch out for.

One of the standout things about this book is the worldbuilding. It’s set in London, but explores the magical and more sinister areas. It’s certainly fascinating to read, but I did think it was a bit confusing in the beginning. There’s already quite a bit going on in the very beginning so I think that’s where things could have been explained better. But overall, I do really like the fact that the author made it complex. It keeps things interesting.

So if you like Paranormal Romance with a bit of Steampunk elements, then you definitely need to check Bec McMaster out.
