“Not only if she completely badass, but [Alina] has a bit of sass and sarcasm to go with it. Her conversations alone are entertaining. I think if the book was just dialogue, I would still find myself enjoying this book. ”
~ Under the Covers
I picked this book up on a complete whim and it mostly had to do with the cover. It’s absolutely gorgeous and drew me in as soon as I saw it. Before reading this book, I didn’t read the blurb or even researched the author. I just started to read and discovered that there’s a lot to like.
First off, the writing of this book is simple and eloquent. This is easily a book you can read in one sitting if you’re lucky. From the very first page, I was engaged and I just loved the straight-forwardness of the author’s voice and having not read anything from this author before, it’s really something special for me to notice an author’s voice from just one book.
Secondly, I think if you like a strong heroine like Rose Hathaway from Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series, then you’re probably going to like Alina Starkov. Not only if she completely badass, but she has a bit of sass and sarcasm to go with it. Her conversations alone are entertaining. I think if the book was just dialogue, I would still find myself enjoying this book. Alina just has some amazing lines and wicked comebacks.
And thirdly, this world is wicked cool. Set in a made-up country, there’s quite a bit of worldbuilding as you can expect, but what’s so great about this setting is that things are on shaking ground and Alina becomes the key to trying to save it. I won’t say more because that would just reveal the whole plot but I would say it’s worth checking out yourself. The world Bardugo was able to make really is a perfect blend of Fantasy and Young Adult. Fans of Kiersten White’s AND I DARKEN would enjoy this book. I cannot wait to read the next in the series!

I have these series at home on my shelf waiting to be read. I wasn’t sure about them at first because the covers are a favorite of mine. (don’t throw anything at me) After reading reviews saying how good they were I’ve put them closer on the TBR list.
I haven’t tried anything from this author before but I have to say I was impressed by her voice! I will def be looking into more of her books for sure!

Just about to start “And I Darken”. I’ll be sure to pick this book up as soon as I’m done.
Oh i freakin loved And I Darken!
Gahhhhh!!!!!!!! I freaking LOVE Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha Trilogy! I think it’s one of the most consistent YA series I’ve ever read. By that, I mean the author stays true to the story and characters from the very beginning. Six of Crows (set in the same fantasy world, but with different characters) is freaking fantastic, too!!!!
Sorry for all the exclamation points. I’m so passionate about this series!!!!
LOL! No I love all the exclamation marks! I am loving the series so far and I’m excited to read Six of Crows next
