“Easily the best part of the book is the sex. It’s raw and gritty and definitely hot.” ~ Under the Covers

RIDING DIRTY is the first book in a brand new MC Romantic Suspense series. I thought I’d try this because I haven’t read any books by Jill Sorensen before and what better way to try a new-to-me author than by trying out their new series!

First off, it’s clear that Sorensen has done her research. There’s a lot of emphasis on Cole as a criminal. He’s the ultimate bad boy from a motorcycle club. I didn’t get the sense that she tried to make him very romantic or heroic. Cole is what he is and he has some very rough edges.

Mia is a psychologist and this is one of the major reasons I wanted to read this book. Since I studied Psychology in uni, a lot of my interests lie in this field. About 45% of the first half is basically Cole and Mia talking during his counselling lessons. I’m not sure I liked the author’s take on Mia’s profession. It was too much overanalyzing and looking down on the client as well as asking too many questions that tend to give therapists a bad name. But I did like how Mia was able to get under Cole’s skin and make him admit things he normally wouldn’t with others.

Easily the best part of the book is the sex. It’s raw and gritty and definitely hot. Yet despite all that I also thought that some bits were added in there just to “edgy” because Cole is in a motorcycle club.

Mia and Cole’s romance is a little bit difficult to explain. It’s rushed in some places and slow in others. Like I said, the sex helps progress their relationship yet I found it hard to believe that Mia could go so long without sex and then immediately drop into dirty mode just like that with Cole, especially when upon meeting him she had an anxiety attack due to her memories.

The suspense in this novel derives from the MC lifestyle. Again, Sorensen really infuses the book with the attitude. I liked this a lot, but there’s also a lot of telling as opposed to showing and I think that can affect how well readers get invested into the story.

All in all, I enjoyed this gritty, suspenseful world that Sorensen has created. I can’t wait to read more about Ace!
