QUIET NIGHTS is the second book in the Mangrove series by Mary Calmes. Again, it’s freaking adorable and charming, which gets me wondering if Calmes could ever write a book where I don’t immediately love the characters. I don’t know what it is but she’s able to infuse her characters with so much personality that despite their flaws and the mistakes they make in the book, you love them.
At only 80 pages, I thought this book would just be an okay read. I didn’t see how it was possible to fit a full-blown romance, have conflict and also build that romance so that it’s believable by the end, but MARY CALMES DOES IT.
First of all, the introduction to the characters is downright hilarious. To be honest, the whole book is hilarious. Between Kelly running away from the man he thought he loved, to Coz getting all angry at him and then Coz’s mother Annie talking about her renewed sex life, there’s so much to love about this book. I was literally laughing so hard I had to put the book down. Calmes really knows how to have fun with her books and I think it comes across in her characters. They’re all so wonderful to read about.
Kelly and Coz have been friends for a very long time and they are so close that Coz’s family considers Kelly to be one of them. While everyone else thinks they will eventually get together, Kelly and Coz are sort of blindsided by it. Oh, the attraction and chemistry is there for sure, but neither one was willing to risk their friendship in case it all fell to pieces. So while their get together is a bit rushed, it was an easy decision for them because it’s something they wanted for a long time.
Now from the beginning Kelly has a conflict with Britton Lassiter, one his previous conquests. It’s kind of funny to read about what really happened and what Kelly made himself believe to be true – it’s all just a big misunderstanding, but makes Coz and Kelly’s union that much more easier so while a bit weak, it does open up an opportunity to tell Lassiter’s story as well. I can’t wait!

I enjoyed this story as well. Calmes has definitely become an auto buy. So far everything I have read by her, I have liked.
She’s a definite auto buy for me and is perhaps my fave m/m author!
