I was anxiously awaiting the release of ONE TINY LIE. The story of Livie, Kacey’s younger sister from TEN TINY BREATHS. After the emotional rollercoaster that book was and all the things Kacey had to go through with her parents death, nobody really focused on the marks that would leave on the impressionable young girl Livie was.
She seemed so strong and ready to face everything and anything, but inside she was hiding her own fears. It was interesting to see Livie’s emotional shell start to crumble as she opened herself up and experienced life. It was also bound to happen that she found herself attracted to a damaged guy.
Ashton is to die for sexy. The bad boy everyone warns you to stay away because he’ll break your heart. You may enjoy the ride but you know it’s going to end soon. But he is different with Livie. And when he cares for her and shows her, you can’t help but melt right along with her. Like they said in the book, it’s not the words, it’s the actions that let you know that someone loves you. And Ashton had plenty of those. Mixed in with plenty of ass moments. 🙂
I think Ashton and Livie were a perfect compliment for each other. They are both in much the same uncertain place in their lives where they have to figure out where to go from here. Livie has been following a pattern for her life of what she thought her parents would want for her. And realizing that is not really fitting her. Ashton has been also following a pattern for his life set by his father and trying to break free from that. I loved how they help each other find their way out of those blocks.
I was not too happy about the fact that there was a triangle. Well, you can’t really call it that because Livie never really cares for Connor and Connor never really shows much interest in my opinion. But I don’t like the cheating part so I would’ve rather not seen that element in the book. It added only a small level of drama that was really not all that necessary.
This story is different from TEN TINY BREATHS in the fact that it doesn’t pack as much of an emotional punch. It’s a story of self discovery and healing, but slow and easy, where the previous was more of a fast and hard wreck. Nevertheless, it is one of those stories that keeps you turning the pages, so involved in what’s happening and taking you along for the ride.
