~ Under the Covers

I’ve been wanting to read Emma Hamm for a couple of years now, and the covers for this series are so captivating I couldn’t pass it up.

Our heroine is on a quest to rescue her sister who was kidnapped by the Goblin King. In order to get her back she has to go to the fae world and make a deal with the King. As she goes through her series of tasks in her journey through the fae realm, she learns more about the Goblin King and maybe has to re-evaluate some of the things she’s believed her whole life.

First, let me get this out of the way. The story doesn’t end with this book. I didn’t know all the books in the series follow the same couple and storyline and when I picked this up I wasn’t prepared to binge all of them. So I’ll have to go back to it at a later date. But figured that would be an important point if you’re interested in reading it.

Second, the romance and steam. When I talked about reading this on social media this was a question I got a couple of times. Honestly, it felt like there was no romance for 95% of this book. And knowing that this will develop more as the series goes on now makes sense. Steam? Not existent in this one for now.

The characters were intriguing, but I felt like there was something missing from making me care completely about what would happen to them. But the story was intriguing and the world as well, so I was invested in finding out how it would all end. And as I mentioned before, we really don’t get that. So ultimately I was a bit disappointed mostly because I did go in expecting this to stand alone. My mistake.

I’m intrigued enough to continue on at a later time though and see how this will all go. But it’s not a book that left me rushing to pick up the next one either.

About Emma Hamm

Writing is one of those journeys that means something different to everyone. For me, I started writing because I always had a story I thought I could do better. I would be intensely angry when I story didn’t end the way I wanted it to. Or heaven’s forbid they were just lazy with the storytelling.

I started my journey in online forums where I wrote with friends. We told fantastical tales and dove deep into fantasy realms that we built from scratch. And then I realized I could do this on my own, and that I wanted to write my own book.

Many, many books later and here I am. With more series under my belt than I can count, and a love of storytelling that still burns brightly.

If you have a story to tell, write it. You never know how many people you’ll help.
