“But the heroine was more of the star for me in this book.”
~ Under the Covers

I picked this book totally on a whim thanks to social media.  There was a new book that came out in this series recently and it made me reconsider continuing to read it.  I picked up the first book years ago when it first came out and I’ll be honest it wasn’t a winner in my book, as you can see by my review. But maybe I missed something?  So I ended up picking up book 2 and I couldn’t remember much from the first since it was like 8 years ago!  I think the author did a good enough job at making the reader understand the world.

Our hero is very happy working alone, dealing with the depression of having lost the woman he loved.  Perfect brooding hero.  But the heroine was more of the star for me in this book.  She’s kickass and strong, she has the hero’s back even when he doesn’t want it.  It was nice to see a strong female lead in this romance.

But the pacing was a bit slow for me.  The world building was more interesting and less annoying to me than the first book and I think that has something to do with the characters.  I did like the couple in this book more than the previous couple.

So will I be continuing this series?  I think I’ll give book 3 a chance at some point but I’m not rushing to get to it.
