“It’s more of a contemporary romance with some suspense elements. If you go into it looking for that, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised.” Under the Covers
We continue getting to know the Wilde sisters and this time it’s Samantha’s turn. Samantha was the typical homecoming queen, flirting with everyone kind of girl. Then she became a cop and was dating a successful doctor, Quinn. A divorced one at that with a crazy ex wife. Until, a few months into their relationship, his ex wife is murdered and he’s the primary suspect. With the baggage from her past and her own parents deaths’, she can’t fully trust that he’s innocent. Which hurts their relationship.
There were a few things about their relationship development that didn’t quite fit for me. Like when at the beginning he was ready to ask her to move in with him, after a few months of dating, but he had never opened up to her about his past, family, etc. She hadn’t either for that matter. So that didn’t bode well for their connection that they were ready to jump into a step of commitment without really knowing each other.
Once they started their second courtship, then I really enjoyed them together. They were both funny and endearing. Quinn didn’t really let up and he went above and beyond to show her that he was into her and wanted to try and make a relationship with her work. But they spent a lot of time apart or protecting the other by staying away. I think a little more together time would’ve been better.
The ending was predictable. There’s one thing that I love about my romantic suspense and that’s the suspense! This book didn’t have much of that, which is why I gave it a lower rating even though it’s a great book. I’ve come to understand that this series is a much lighter romantic suspense than I’m used to reading, maybe, and sweet on some parts. It’s more of a contemporary romance with some suspense elements. If you go into it looking for that, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Which comes down to expectations.
