“…this is still a cute romcom…”
~ Under the Covers

I picked this book up on a whim because I’ve been wanting to try this author for some time and saw this was on KU.

Rachel is out celebrating her 27th birthday and ends up getting a little too tipsy and having a one night stand with a hot bad boy she met at a bar.  That night of crazy also ended up with her doing something that caused her to lose her job and now she finds herself with the opportunity to pursue her real passion.  That’s where she runs back into Jimmy and they have to compete for the same position.

One thing I really enjoyed was the focus on wine and the fact that Jimmy’s family is in the wine business.  That’s why I’m classifying this as “culinary” btw.  The passion for wine that was portrayed was a nice touch even though at times it may have veered too into the technical for me. But I loved seeing the characters have a shared passion for something that’s inherently sensual to begin with.  It’s a sensory experience!

My main complain about this story is that I found it dragging and boring at times.  I feel like there was a missed opportunity in not amping up the story.  LEGS is quite character driven but at the same time some of the issues that could’ve been explored more to add depth to the story I felt like they weren’t.  And that made for some lackluster pacing in my opinion which resulted in my lack of connection.

However, this is still a cute romcom.  I’m probably overly critical in some of the things I like and expect from books.  I think it’s entirely possible I’ll try more from this author and see if my feelings are just for this story instead of the style of writing in general.
