“…it delivered on the angst.” ~Under the Covers

LEFT DROWNING was recommended to me as an angsty read and one that would leave me thinking about it for long after I read it.  And, in a way, it delivered on the angst.  I do think I was expecting something different though.

Blythe McGuire lost her parents in a fire.  The same fire that ruined her brother’s leg and his hopes of becoming an athlete.  She’s been in sort of a haze since.  Going through the motions but never really being fully happy or even there.  Now its come to the time that she has to be confronted with that house again, and while there bits and pieces of that past come back to her.  Of that night and what happened.

Along the way he meets a handsome senior, Chris.  He’s hot, he’s guarded.  And she can’t stay away.  I loved the draw and chemistry between Blythe and Chris.  A little bit awkward and still you can feel a deep connection.  I suspected from early on that connection was deeper than Blythe realized.

The book has a tense feeling of angst that draws the reader in throughout.  At times though, I felt as if the angst was just created superficially and I would’ve liked to see it go deeper.  It did come together nicely in the end, and this was an enjoyable read if not a favorite of mine.
