Twenty-five year old Gwen Cassidy is on a mission: To find her cherry picker.
On an impulsive trip to Scotland to find said cherry picker, Gwen encounters a โcherry three chopper-downerโ in the form a hulking Highlander who is stubborn as a mule and from the 14th century. Lovely.
After a little mishap retrieving her pack, Gwen takes a tumble and lands upon Drustan MacKeltar, straddling the slumbering Highland laird who has been enchanted by a powerful spell five centuries ago. With sunlight and her blood, Gwen awakens Drustan only to find that he still believes he is in his century. With a vow to help this confused man, Gwen follows Drustan to the place where his castle once stood…only to find it gone. Using Drustanโs Druid powers and stones, he goes back in time, taking Gwen along with him. But when he miscalculates, they find themselves in a time further back before he was enchanted.
While I liked the beginning of the book, it wasnโt until the dressing room scene that things started rolling for me. It was in this pivotal moment that I came to love Drustan and Gwen together:
โWhat have you stuffed in your pants, MacKelter?โ she demanded.
โNothing that wasnโt God-given,โ he replied stiffly.
Gwen stared. โThereโs no way thatโs part of you. You must have gotten a sock or something stuck. Oh, my.โ
Karen Marie Moning incorporates witty dialogue with a sensual miasma of words that any romance reader can appreciate. She may be popular with her urban fantasy books, but I donโt know if they could compare to the raw, erotic nature of her Highlander books. She does romance very, very well. And this book is no exception!
Countless times Moning pulls something that alters her characters lives so much that when you finally reach the end, their happy ending is definitely worth the wait. Gwen and Drustan fall in love twice in this book and each time was better than the last.

This has to be one of my favorite books in that series. I love the two of them together and the ending b/f the ending broke my heart (if you know what I mean). So glad they’re together! I still think Ms. Moning should write more romances. I love the Fever series, but her highlanders are the best!

YES YES! I know what you mean! I may have to do a reread of this book and the next one soon because I seriously adore them and hope that everyone gets a chance to read them.
I agree, Moning should DEFINITELY write more romance. I started with her Fever series first, but I fell hard for her Highlanders.

I love this series! I’ve read them a few times already and they are definite keepers.
I just love your rating system for books. How did you get it? I’m looking to get a cute one for my reviews, but don’t know where to go. Thanks, Megan@ http://passionateencounters.blogspot.com/
@Megan, we made it up ourselves.
I just finished book 2. I am loving these men in kilts! I have book 3 and 4 on my shelf waiting to be read. I can’t wait.
I have to agree that this one may have been my fave of the series. And Ning had it right about the first ending breaking my heart (I actually teared up!).
Drustan is another one of my favorites…I love the dressing room scene too it’s one of my all time favourite scenes from a book!!!
I love, love, love this series! Great review!! ๐
I haven’t started these yet, but look forward to them since I love the Fever series.
Enjoyed the review. Really enjoy reading highlander type stories. Adding this book to my wish list.
Amber, they only get better! You’re in a treat!
Thank you Nissie!
So glad I’ve found people who love this series as much as I do!

Great post! I adore this book, I blame it as the reason I got sucked into reading romance. And then that progressed into my obsession with the fever series. But Kiss of the Highlander will always have a special place in my heart =)
