“If you’re a fan of Fae but haven’t read this series, then you definitely must pick it up. Kagawa creates an excellent Fae world, one that stays true to the folklore but spices it up a bit.”
~ Under the Covers
Yeah, I’m late on this bandwagon but I figured since I got the entire series for Christmas one year, I thought I would read them now. Now if you know me, you know that I love my YA and I love my Paranormal books but books about Fae tend not to be my favorites. To be honest, they kind of freak me out. They’re devious, manipulating creatures and because of their beauty, it makes them harder to trust. Julie Kagawa takes this sixteen year old girl named Meghan Chase and thrusts her into this entire world she never knew existed.
When strange things begin to happen, like her easy-going best friend starts acting weird and her younger baby brother turns into this menace, Meghan is wondering if her world has been turned upside down. And it has. Kind of. But you’ll have to read the book to find out why.
While the book starts off as your typical YA book, it warps into something way more dark and twisted later on. Kagawa thrusts readers into the fae world and to be honest, it’s a freaky place! It’s almost like Alice in Wonderland but with Fae instead. Meghan takes it in stride though because if it was me and all those strange things started happening all around me, I don’t I couldn’t taken it in stride as well as Meghan did. In fact, she seemed to be thrilled by the world.
Of course the big question that everyone probably wants to know is if I’m Team Puck or Team Ash. So far, I like Ash but I’m waiting to see what Puck brings to the table to really decide.
If you’re a fan of Fae but haven’t read this series, then you definitely must pick it up. Kagawa creates an excellent Fae world, one that stays true to the folklore but spices it up a bit.
