Review: Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead

Richelle Mead was one of the first authors that I got really into when I started reading again.  She has a way of creating worlds and plots that I wanted to immerse myself into.  This group of characters, sort of, are near and dear to my heart.  That being said, I don’t think the Bloodlines series has had the same effect on me.  Nevertheless, I was anxiously awaiting the release of this book and HAD to get it as soon as it came out.

And then here’s what happened.  After I started reading it, I remembered why I wasn’t in love with this new series.  Two words: Sydney Sage.  I’m just not sold on hearing this story from her POV.  I find her …. uninteresting and dull at times.  As this book progressed she did open up a little bit more, to both magic and Adrian. I want to be nice but what the hell.  She kind of took the stick out of her @$$ in INDIGO SPELL.  That still doesn’t make her anywhere close to Rose in my opinion, but hey, they can’t all be amazingly awesome.

What is amazingly awesome is ADRIAN IVASHKOV.  Yes, that has to be said in all caps because that man is so freaking sexy.  I love a good bad boy and Adrian always takes the cake.  He’s even sexier in this book, if that’s even possible.  He’s going full force with putting the moves on Sydney and I really don’t know how she can resist.  That smirk, that voice, that everything!  He’s really the reason I get excited that there are still books coming out in this series because I never want to stop reading about him.  He gives me butterflies in the stomach.  Quite simply, I love Adrian Ivashkov. That is all. He doesn’t even have to talk just sit there and smirk and I.JUST.MELT and if he speaks …. I can’t tell you what happens…LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM

But yes there is a story here.  I feel like every book in this series is something else being thrown in the plot instead of wrapping up loose ends, but maybe it’s all preparing us for one epic final battle.  INDIGO SPELL is basically two things, the introduction of Marcus Finch and his group of rogue Alchemists and Sydney learning to wield magic.

Marcus Finch was pretty cool, I am looking forward to see more about where he will play in the story but I’m sure it’ll be big.  Eddie (love him) and the usual suspects were also around in this one and have their own subplot going on.

But overall, I felt this book suffered from the rollercoaster syndrome, and I don’t mean that in the great sense of “it took me for a wild ride”.  I mean the ups and downs.  There were times I was so into the book and glued to the pages…errrrr the ipod?  And then there were times that I could care less and actually put the book down for a bit.

One thing is for sure.  I am ready for more Adrian and I’m looking forward, especially after that ending, to more amazing things to come for him now that Sage finally opened her eyes and realized the catch she has.  I guess she better watch her back because I’m coming after her, that boy is mine!

On a side note… What do you all think of the VAMPIRE ACADEMY casting?  Are you excited about that movie or what???  I can barely contain my excitement.
