I’m feeling very experimental lately, this was another new author that I have tried in my efforts to get myself out of my rut. It’s not a bad rut…it’s very comfortable and surrounded by all my familiar authors and series, the only thing is, is that it’s getting a little stale and boring so I’m trying to jazz it up a little. Layla Frost is now part of the process. So, will Frost be one of the authors decorating my new reading habitat? I think she might.
I am a big fan of vintage Kristen Ashley, I haven’t enjoyed her new stuff quite as much, but some of her older books and series I feel a vast amount of affection for, despite the obvious flaws. I say this as Hyde and Seek very much reminds me of Ashley and some of her older works, but with younger characters and more sexy times thrown in. The characters are likeably unrealistic and the romance is completely over the top and yet combined together it somehow, and quite mysteriously, becomes charming.
There is also a small suspense subplot that pops up in Hyde and Seek, I am not sure what it added to the story apart from adding an unnecessary twist. Removing this from the book wouldn’t take away from the romance or the story line and it seemed to just be page filler to me rather than anything that added value. The best parts of this book was the romance and Frost writes a good sex scene, although for me there were too many and I did start to get bored and I admit, I skimmed through them towards the end. Less is sometimes more.
This was a good start to the Hyde series and I will definitely be continuing to read more Layla Frost and if you are also a fan of Kristen Ashley, I recommend that you pick this up.
