After returning home to Palladian, Dare Buckley is reminded of the small town life and the gossip that tends to happen in these communities. He is forced to resign from the Seattle PD and that stings a little bit, yet there are two upsides to coming back home. One is he can finally look into his father’s suicide and also rediscover his friendship with Finn Fowler.

Finn has been Dare’s childhood friend for years. They’ve always looked out for each other, but when Dare comes back, Finn is reminded of their past and how much they have shared together. It also ignites a chemistry that burns deeply for the both of them.

I really enjoyed this story. It’s dark but also has moments of humor as well, especially from Finn who I think enjoys poking fun at Dare. The balance is a good mix of suspense, mystery and passion. I felt that Maxfield was able to capture the heart of the story with the heady emotional impact of Dare’s loss as well.
