Review: Hardwired by Meredith Wild

I’ve been wanting to read this series for a while as it caught my eye, what with the hacker angle and all.  Now that I know what the buzz is about I’m left a bit confused.  In a sense, I liked the story well enough, but I don’t think it was original or strong enough to make me want to rush and read the next book.  Part of that is the fact that this whole series (and we are now talking 5 books) is about the same couple!

So there’s Blake.  The hacker.  Except he is a bit less into the full on hacking subculture I was expecting and more a techy business man now.  Basically, your average young self made billionaire.   As with many billionaire heroes, he thinks he can control every aspect of a womans life.  At times not leaving her with a lot of choices.

He has a random run in with Erica at a restaurant and then formally meets her when she’s pitching her internet start up company to him and a few other investors for funding.  From there, his pursuit is relentless.  Lust at first sight.

Erica’s character was well thought out for what she represents and where she is at in her life.  That is not to say she’s my favorite heroine, but her actions seemed to fit the role.  Until we get to the somewhat big reveal of her past towards the end of the story.  I don’t think that was developed well enough, especially with the emotional strain that it should’ve had on her due to two major things crashing into her life.

All that being said, I enjoyed reading this story.  It was a quick read, but it felt more like a quick read to pass the time instead of one to immerse myself in.  I am left interested to see what happens next, but I don’t think I’m ready to make the page count commitment to get to their HEA.
