“You just want 5 more minutes, which then turn into hours.” ~Under the Covers
Ever since I discovered Tessa Dare while looking for a historical romance series to read in preparation of last year’s A SCANDALOUS AFFAIR, I fell in love. To date, she is one of my favorite historical romance authors. She can blend the most interesting characters, quirky and funny, with plenty of emotion and in the end, tell an amazing story.
I’ve had this audiobook now for a while and I’m upset I waited this long to read it. Again, Ms. Dare blows me away and gets me to fall in love with a hero who is very much the anti-hero and a heroine who is the farthest thing from a proper young lady of the ton.
Lucy has known Jeremy for years, after all, he’s her brother’s best friend. But she’s always been “in love” with friend # 3, Toby. Now she’s determined to win Toby’s affections but in the process, her and Jeremy will figure out that they can’t keep away from each other.
This is one of those books that flows so easy and you keep turning the pages (or in my case, you don’t hit the pause button). You just want 5 more minutes, which then turn into hours. It started out with a sexy and funny moment and after that Jeremy and Lucy didn’t disappoint. Their relationship developed at a great pace, even amidst some of the worst communication problems I’ve ever read!
The turn of events around the middle of the book was a surprise, and again, with all the miscommunication, I think it worked well. Lucy is no delicate flower and she never lost her spirit and who she was, even when her position changed. And Jeremy learned how to work with that. Even if it took him a little bit of time to adjust. But then again, I have a thing for alpha men that think they know the place of a woman who then fall to their knees begging forgiveness.
