“It’s clear that Calmes has put a lot of effort into the worldbuilding. There’s many alluring aspects that set this book apart from the other paranormal romances out there.”

I’m a big Mary Calmes fan so it’s a little surprising that I haven’t venture into her Paranormal Romances as much. So in an effort to rectify that, I wanted to try this audiobook and delve into the world that many seem to love.
FORGING THE FUTURE is actually the fifth book in the series and well, stupid me, I thought that I could jump in and be totally okay with it. I don’t know whether it was the fact that I listened to this as an audiobook and the narrator’s voice kind of irritated me or maybe it was because Calmes has many terms in this series that I’m familiar with, but I found it very easy to get lost.
It’s clear that Calmes has put a lot of effort into the worldbuilding. There’s many alluring aspects that set this book apart from the other paranormal romances out there. I especially loved the dynamic that Jin and Logan had. So while I felt one step behind in terms of the world, the romance was still fantastic and well done.
Another factor that I think influenced how much I enjoyed this book was the narrator. There are some accents involved and I hate to say this, but a few of them were really bad. I have no doubt that if I read this book instead of listening to it, I would have enjoyed it far more.
That being said, I will recommend this series in order. The romance is wonderful written and with such a unique world as this is, I’ll make sure to return to it soon.

That is an interesting cover
Oh wow, yeah, this is a read in order series. Each book builds on what came before. And yes, she created a wonderful world. It’s got a gritty quality to it that made it feel like the shifters really are not human. Hope you get a chance to read the others in order.
Hey Sophia Rose!
Yes, learning from my mistakes here so I’ll have to go back and read the others! They’ve been on my TBR for a very long time. But this time I think I’ll also try reading the books on my own instead of audio.
