[McLaughlin] doesnโ€™t bother with trying to make the book seem bigger than it really is, but instead focuses on the emotion and having those speak for themselves. ~ Under the Covers

I got this book without reading the blurb, thinking it was a New Adult book. It came as a surprise to me that itโ€™s actually a Contemporary Romance story with a decent dosage of angst.

Liam leaves Beaumont to live out his dreams. When he returns as an accomplished rock star, complete with tattoos after learning that his best friend has died, he knows he will have a face-to-face with the woman he left behind and has never been able to forget.

Already you can get the sense of the pain and regret that Liam as lived with since he left. The most natural thing to do would be to lay all the blame on him for leaving Josie without an explanation. However, as you read, you discover that mistakes were made on both sides and what started off as a sad story soon turns into one of hope and the revival of young love.

As my first book by Heidi McLaughlin, I was first struck by the straight-talking narrative. She doesnโ€™t bother with trying to make the book seem bigger than it really is, but instead focuses on the emotion and having those speak for themselves. That being said, this book is saturated with heavy, lingering emotions that need to be hashed out. One of the great things is that with Contemporary Romance in particular is that you have a hero and a heroine who must learn to be with each other. I felt that was exactly what McLaughlin set out to do. As you add in the drama, the conflict becomes more tangible and thus, more real. Iโ€™m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
