“I don’t regret reading this, as I did enjoy it, [but] it also didn’t fill me with excitement ”
~ Under the Covers
Deanna Chase’s never expected to see her childhood sweetheart, and the only man she has ever loved, again. When he broke her heart she ran far away from not only him but her whole family and hasn’t seen them since. But when he turns up at her office, angry with her but asking for her help, still as sexy as he was when she ran, it becomes increasingly difficult to say no. As they get closer Deanne is terrified he will break her heart all over again, especially when she tells him a secret she has been hiding for years…
This was a bit of an impulse purchase, I love the cover and I am also a sucker for a romance featuring a BBW, making FAT GIRL irresistible. And, although I don’t regret reading this, as I did enjoy it, it also didn’t fill me with excitement and have me recommending it to anyone who stood still long enough. It was nice, an enjoyable read and I would definitely try another one of Leigh Carron’s books again. In fact, I plan on reading the next book in this duo when it comes out.
The romance between Deanna and Micah was certainly rocky, and switched from the present, to brief flashes of their past, showing how they got together to how they fell apart. There is a lot of emotion between Deanna and Micah, pain, love, betrayal and although Deanna’s secret wasn’t a surprise it was still heart-breaking, Carron packs a lot into FAT GIRL.
There was also the other aspect of the book, which is Deanna helping her brother, the one she hasn’t seen for a very long time, keep custody of his adopted son. I can’t wait to see what happens with this part of the story line, Carron has set up a bit of a mystery, a tragic one I suspect, about his family and what happened to his birth mother.
I did enjoy this book, I liked the characters and although the romance was slow to start, I can’t wait to see how it all concludes. I will definitely be reading the next and final book when it comes out.
