Review: Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor

Recommended Read!

“I can’t think of another series that’s like this one. The setting, the mythology, it’s all so unique you can’t help but feel mystified by it all. ”

In the second novel of the Daughter and Smoke and Bone series, Laini Taylor kicks up everything into overdrive. While I enjoyed the first book, I feel like everything just seems more polished in this one. Not only is the writing better, but the characters are more fully formed and I loved the way Taylor was able to incorporate so much humor into this book. DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT is dark, and a lot of the stuff that happens in it will probably break some hearts, but at the same time, it doesn’t feel like a heavy book.

While we find out what Karou really is, at the same time, there are more questions that arises, keeping the book moving at a fast pace. I really like Karou and Akiva, but I think my favorite character of the series is probably Zuzana. She has so many adorable and funny moments in this book that she really became the star of the show. I just love supportive friends like that in novels and she’s definitely a big reason why I think you should try this series.

Now as you can tell, I’m intentionally avoiding talking about the plot of this story because it would just involve too many spoilers, but I will say that the ride just gets bumpier for these characters but it’s still very fun and enjoyable to read.

I can’t think of another series that’s like this one. The setting, the mythology, it’s all so unique you can’t help but feel mystified by it all. I would definitely recommend trying this series if you haven’t already, and if you can, try the audiobooks because I think the narrator does an excellent job with accents and bringing these characters to life, especially Zuzana. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

  1. This is one of my all time very favorite series. It is phenomenal and the writing is so damn good. I went and bought all three in hardcovers which I almost never do, had to have those covers. It is totally unique and I so wish more people were aware of it.

    1. I can see why you enjoyed this series so much! It’s so unique and different than what’s out there. Do you have a favourite book in the series? After having finished this one, I think this one is my fave but I’m about to start the last one today!
