“[The Lunar Chronicles] is definitely my favorite series I’ve discovered this year.”
~ Under the Covers

I may be late on the bandwagon on this but trust me when I say that I’m just as obsessed with this series as any other teenager. First off, I just want to say that it’s been a hella long time since I’ve fallen in love with a series. I’m talking YEARS. So the fact that the Lunar Chronicles has swept me away is a big deal.

What makes this series so unique is the premise. From the book cover alone, I’m sure many readers would be interested to know what the heck a mechanical foot in doing on the cover of a YA novel. Cinder is cyborg who finds herself in a really bad predicament when the plague hits her sister, Peony. Her evil legal guardian puts Cinder up for testing to find an antidote for the disease, hoping that her life can save her sister’s. However, several discoveries are found and the plot thickens when Queen Leveana, the Lunar Queen decides to visit New Beijing effectively ruining the life of Prince Kai. To prevent the plague from happening, decisions are made, off-shooting a series of actions that may be surprising to some readers. The plot really is more complicated than that but I feel like it’s best to read it yourself. It really is mesmerizing. I should note that the story arc continues into the other books in the series but the cliffhanger isn’t too bad that you want to cry when you reach the end.

Cinder and Kai are the main characters. Their romance is sweet and subtle and very much in the early stages still. Kai is a very noble character, one that makes a great leader but he’s still learning so I can only assume that he’ll continue to grow with the series.

Cinder is probably the most stable out of all the characters in the series. Despite the fact that secrets are held from her, she reacts to their discoveries in a very mature manner so I think this series makes it easy for not only teens to love, but older audiences as well.

Of course I have to mention the world because what Meyer does here is truly amazing. She integrates Science Fiction, Young Adult and Steampunk elements together in a way that makes it fun and exciting. I’m such a stickler when it comes to these three genres so the fact that Meyer can do all three in one series and still make me love it is a great feat. I am already moving onto the next book and can’t wait to see her twist of other well-known fairy-tales.

I almost wished I had Queen Leveana’s mental abilities to make everyone read this series but I have no doubt that if you try it, you won’t be able to stop. This is definitely my favorite series I’ve discovered this year.
