Jack is beating himself up for his mistake. We see his regrets and we see how he aims to correct them. To me, that shows that he isnโ€™t perfect, but heโ€™s trying damn hard to be for Laurelynn. ~ Under the Covers

Starting off where Beauty from Pain left off, readers are thrown once again in the midst of Jack Henryโ€™s seduction. Be warned, there is a lot of sex. But you donโ€™t see me complaining ๐Ÿ˜‰

If youโ€™ve read Beauty from Pain then you know that Laurelyn has left Australia and is headed back home to Nashville. Desperate to forget about Jack Henry and the way he broke her heart, she submerges herself into her music career but finds that even that is on the rocks. When propositions are hitting her left and right and Laurelynn doesnโ€™t give in to them, she finds her career crumbling before her eyes. Adding that to a broken heart can crush oneโ€™s spirit and the first one-third of the book is all about living with the pain.

Cates also graces us with Jackโ€™s POV. I LOVED THIS. Not only do we see more of him even when Laurelynn and Jack are apart but we also see the way Jack is beating himself up for his mistake. We see his regrets and we see how he aims to correct them. To me, that shows that he isnโ€™t perfect, but heโ€™s trying damn hard to be for Laurelynn.

Another thing I liked was that you can tell that this is all new for Jack Henry. Before this, he had scores of women, keeping them for whatever duration their contract lasted and then left them without a secondโ€™s thought. Until Laurelynn came into his life, it was easy. Jack has never felt this way for anyone and heโ€™s a total mess because of it.

The events that span this book can be guessed quite easily. There is a lot of speculation from Jackโ€™s POV and makes him more desperate to find Laurelynn right this second. While not highly original, I do feel that it fit the storyline. Thinking on what other routes Cates could have gone on, I donโ€™t see anything else fitting more than what she has chosen for this book. (See how I did that? I kept things intentionally vague for all you spoilery haters ;P)

Iโ€™m hoping for a third book because I do need another dose of Jack Henry. Heโ€™s a heady thing and readers will be clamouring for more once they finished this hotter than hell book!

  1. Great review! I read this book on release day and I enjoyed it tremendously. I would also love it if Georgia Cates came out with a continuation perhaps an after HEA novella to see how the pair is doing, to get more of Jack Henry and Laurelyn.

  2. Wonderful review! I just finished this one and completely agree with you. I would love to get another one with these stories, even if it’s a novella. ๐Ÿ™‚
