“I wasn’t sure what I expected but while this book is quite sexy, there’s also a lot of serious issues that get addressed here as well. So well done to Katie Ashley for adding more dimension to her books!” ~ Under the Covers

BEAT OF THE HEART is the second in the Runaway Train series by Katie Ashley. It’s been such a long time since I picked up a Ashley book but I wanted some rockstars to get love. And I can safely say that I have found them in this series.

The big reason for me was AJ. Though he’s a little cocky and is considered a man’s man, there’s just something appealing about his character. He’s bad boy and sensitive man all rolled into one so reading about his romance with Mia turned out to be really fun.

I will say that the depth of this book really surprised me. I wasn’t sure what I expected but while this book is quite sexy, there’s also a lot of serious issues that get addressed here as well. So well done to Katie Ashley for adding more dimension to her books!

Since I did listen to this book in audio, I feel like I should touch on the experience. I haven’t listened to many audiobooks with two narrators switching in between chapters so I don’t have much to compare this experience to but I will say that the the male narrator was great. I wasn’t a fan of the female one though. Her voice grated on me and I couldn’t understand what she was saying at times. In all honesty, I think I prefer the male’s female voice to the real female narrator but Ashley’s writing is still nonetheless fun and exciting despite the wishy-washy narrators.

  1. Thanks for the review, I’ve only read book 1 in this series but have this one on my TBR pile.
