I’ve had my eye on this book for some time now and I finally took the plunge to read it this year as it fit one of my #Romanceopoly prompts. This is the story of Elle and Malcolm.  Elle is an incredibly smart Black woman who, after getting her freedom from slavery decides to trade that in and go back to slavery but as a spy to obtain information for the Union Army.  Malcolm is also a spy for the Union Army, but he’s white. Their paths cross during a mission and there’s no way they can deny their love, forbidden as it is or not.

AN EXTRAORDINARY UNION is my favorite book by Alyssa Cole I’ve read to date!  This book was filled with passion, strong characters, dangerous situations, strong will and determination. I love characters that I feel I can look up to and admire because of their actions and both MCs in this one had so much grit and character. If you’re looking for a historical romance that is just a bit outside of the fancy balls and debutantes, then give this one a try.
