“It’s just so easy to fall in love with Mary Calmes’ books.” ~ Under the Covers
The sequel to Mary Calmes’ Timing is just as fun and sexy as the first. After two years of being with his hunky rancher, Stefan Joss is feeling quite lucky. He is now teaching at a community college but something still nags at him. He doesn’t feel completely comfortable here and as a safety net, he wants a way out in case Rand decides against him. As Rand works on his empire, he wants to keep Stefan a little more close to home, involving him in the details that make his life so hard and rewarding at the same time. So as Stefan and Rand deal with this very realistic situations and emotions, readers develop a strong connection to their characters. The problem for them is not their love, but how will their lives fit together now that they are a team.
Mary Calmes pens a very charming story for these characters. While less complicated than her other books, that doesn’t mean that the emotions are less developed. Calmes spends a considerable amount of time expressing Stefans wants and dreams in a way that makes him seem happy but also wishful for something more. I enjoyed watching how Rand and Stefan got true their happily-ever-after. It really cemented their relationship for me.
As always, Calmes infuses her books with some comedy and good-natured teasing. This is generally my favorite parts of the book. I find that I can read the characters interactions forever so that’s a testament to Calmes’s character personalities as well as her ability to write good dialogue. It’s just so easy to fall in love with Mary Calmes’ books.
