“…there was an ache and yearning in this story that I couldn’t get enough of.”
~ Under the Covers
I was recently recommended this book when I was looking for a farmer hero and I’m glad I gave it a shot. I’m always looking for new authors to read in the LGBT romance sub genre and I’m happy to have found Eli Easton.
A SECOND HARVEST features an age gap, the characters are polar opposites in many aspects, and there was an ache and yearning in this story that I couldn’t get enough of. David is the older of the two, a widower who inherited his family’s farm when he was really young. He had to grow up fast, take care of his family which then was his wife and two kids, and be a God fearing member of his small community. All the other feelings he ever had were repressed and shoved in a corner. Until Christie moves into the farm next door after his grandmother passed away. He’s younger, a bit wild and without purpose, but he coaxes David out of his shell and brings to the forefront everything he thought he buried deep inside himself.
This is beautiful story even if a bit understated. There isn’t anything too flashy about the relationship between these two and the friendship develops slowly and tentatively. A good kind of slow burn. I loved them together in those tender moments. Probably I would’ve liked to see a little more sizzling chemistry but in the end this didn’t feel like that kind of book and these are not those kind of characters. David especially. There’s a lot he’s discovering and dealing with emotionally and outwardly.
This was my first Eli Easton book and it certainly won’t be my last. I really enjoyed her writing style and I’ll be continuing this series.
