#Romanceopoly Review: Repeat by Kylie Scott

Clementine Jones doesn’t know much. She literally had to be reminded of her own name. After a street mugging that left her with amnesia, she has no idea who she was and definitely no idea who she is. But she’s going to find out. Tracking down the tattoo artist who did the beautiful piece she has, the last thing she expected was a such a hostile greeting. Only, he isn’t just the artist who did her tattoo, he is her ex-fiancee.

This is one of my first romanceopoly 2020 reads and I picked it up to fulfill the “read a second chance romance” challenge. What better way to set up a second chance than with amnesia? I mean, as long as you forget about the medical realities of course. This is my second book by Scott and although she doesn’t grab me and make me want to immediately read her entire back list, I do like her style. She’s witty, sexy and smart, which is exactly what I am looking for in a contemporary romance.

I really liked the mixture of tropes, we have amnesia, second chance, enemies to lovers and even a little epistolary touch in their text message exchanges. It all came together to create a great story that was cleverly built up as Clem discovers why her and Ed’s relationship fell apart and they both need to discover if there’s enough love between them to start again.

As well as the relationship development between Clem and Ed, we also go down the road of self-discovery as Clem tries to find out who she now is. She’s a completely blank slate and rather than repeating the mistakes from the past, mistakes that contributed to her and Ed’s break up, she is forging a new road. I loved seeing her become more certain of herself as she explores new avenues in her life.

There’s also a small suspense plot in this, not much and it only really gets focussed on at the end of the book. But, it clears up some mysteries, although, it wasn’t hard to guess what was happening. Part of me wasn’t sure about the necessity of it’s inclusion, but the more I think about it, the more I don’t think that it was needed, certain things wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for nudges from outside sources.

I really enjoyed this, it worked really well as a standalone romance and I recommend picking this up if you want a second chance romance with a great twist.
