Review: Playing it Cool by Amy Andrews

Dexter Blake immediately notices the gorgeously curved woman on the side lines. But, he knows that all his focus needs to be on his rugby career, he can look for love once his career is over. But, when he sees her asshole step brother insulting her body, he decides to ask her out. Harper Nugent can’t believe that the gorgeous rugby player has just asked her out, even if it was in a skewed bid to save her honour. However, their date goes so much better than either of them expect and hanging out together is too much fun to stop. Suddenly their fake relationship doesn’t feel so fake after all.

I picked this book up as I heard it mentioned in the Fated Mates podcast, then saw it was on sale. Obviously it was fate telling me I needed to pick this book up. I was also in a bit of a book slump, I had just finished reading a couple of books that were both long and disappointing. I wanted something relatively short, easy and fun to read. It didn’t need to blow my socks off, it just needed to leave me with a smile. Playing it Cool was just what I needed. Did it rock my world? No. Was it fun and left me with my much needed smile? Yes.

What I really liked about this book was how sexy it was. Andrews did such a great job of capturing the visceral lust that our hero and heroine felt for one another. It was freaking hot, I will never think of overalls in the same way again. However, although she did a great job in the lust department, their physical attraction was undeniable. What I didn’t really sense from the book was anything deeper than that. The i-love-yous, although lovely didn’t quite ring as true for me.

If you want a fast, but fun and sexy read then this is the one for you. I especially love that we had a curvy heroine and it was very explicit in how hot the hero found her body. Loved it.
