“…these two had a lot of toe curling chemistry.”
~ Under the Covers

I love Santino’s writing and that is one of the reasons why I was anxious to read this book.  I loved the overall concept of this series and, even though I didn’t connect with the first couple as much as I wanted to, I did love one of the MCs in this upcoming one.  And I was totally right in loving him because this installment kicked ass!

Holden Payne is the gay son of the leader of The Community.  He also owns a night club where gay psychics can come and find some help, and that was the backdrop of the mess in the first book.  After that, his father has chosen to put a loyal member of his team to keep watch on his son and what’s going on at the club.  Enter Sixtus.  He’s an Invulnerable, meaning he doesn’t feel emotions the same as other people and psychics do but also he can’t be influenced or “read” by other psychics.  And Holden doesn’t quite know how to deal with that.

This book uncovers more of the corruption in The Community.  I thought that was done really well, it definitely kept me interested about the story and the overall series arc.  But the stars of the show were Holden and Sixtus.  I just adored those two.  First the bickering and more straight forward talking between them, and then Holden trying hard to seduce Sixtus.  The combination of wanting to do it to get information out of him as well as their attraction was the perfect combination.

I also loved how “simple” Sixtus character was because it stayed true to his Invulnerable nature.  He says what he feels and I liked that about him.  His interactions with Holden were always straight forward even when we were trying to read something different in them.  Plus, these two had a lot of toe curling chemistry.

Just when I thought this would wrap up the overall plot, we are left with something more that needs to be resolved and I for one, can’t wait to get to it.spacer

EXCERPT

He half-expected to be shoved away and for a fist to crash into his face right before the taste of iron bloomed in his mouth, but it didn’t happen. The hands gripping him closed down harder, grinding bone and muscle, but that was the only way Six reacted. He was frozen as Holden stroked his tongue gently and coaxed it into a response before sucking it entirely into his mouth. A groan muffled against him, low and quickly aborted, but Holden heard it. And he felt the way Six leaned into him. It was barely a response, but it encouraged Holden to pin Six against the door and dive into a hungry kiss. Slicking tongues, frantically moving lips, and a full body press that made it quite clear that Six was into this. His dick was fully rocked up in a way that could not be explained by anything other than arousal for Holden. It was right about the time triumph usually exploded in Holden’s chest with invisible banners and balloons celebrating a conquest, but this time he felt apprehension. He didn’t want to end this kiss. He wanted Six to keep exploring the inside of his mouth with a delightfully frantic lack of finesse, and he wanted a genuine fucking smile once they were done. But that wasn’t in the cards. That wasn’t what this was about.

  1. Great review. I felt the same about this book, and I really feel like it upped the ante for the whole series. There is so much that could happen in the next book, and I am so excited for it!
