I’ve been on the fence about picking up this series since it first came out.  But something always scared me away from trying it out.  It could very well be the fact that some of the people I saw raving about it I’ve grown to not trust we have the same taste.  This month I’ve been on the lookout for things to read that I’ve had lingering for a while and this series popped back up on my radar so I decided to go for it.  And I’m so glad I did!

Zack is a Navy SEAL who is completely in the closet.  Even with himself because he’s never had any actual experiences with men.  But he’s also being bullied by one of his teammates and is scared of what he would have to face at work and with his family if he were to come out, so in the closet he stays.  That is until he ends up having Pike as a roommate.  There’s been an attraction between them that he’s denied in all their friendly encounters, but living together it’s a much harder thing to do.

These two are such lovable characters!  I think that was my favorite thing about this story, I really connected with them and cared for them.  I wanted to scream at Zack sometimes and be mad at Pike when he would melt and give in.  Plenty of delicious, undeniable chemistry!

But I also liked that they both had their own issues to deal with.  Pike is not in the career path he thought he wanted and he’s got decisions ahead of him that can change his life.  And Zack has a major life altering step to take as well.

I didn’t realize this must’ve been a spin off of another series because there’s a couple at the beginning of this book who had an HEA in another series.  Seeing them happy though didn’t make me want to jump and go read their story though.  However, OFF BASE was definitely one I blew right through in almost one sitting and I can’t wait to read more from this series.

  9. After three years away from Romance books I needed something like this to get back. I haven’t finished it yet, but my constant smile while reading it is more than enough to know that this book is a keeper 😀

    And thanks for posting this. It doesn’t matter how long I’m away from the genre. I will always come back to Under the Covers to get my dosis!!
