Review: Now I Rise by Kiersten White

Whether or not you are a fan of Young Adult, if you are a fan of Fantasy Romance then you definitely need to read this series by Kiersten White. This book completely surprised me. I expected it to be good because I loved the first book so much, but this book totally exceeded my expectations.

First of all, I have to mention the writing. It’s possible that if you pick up this book, you wouldn’t even be able to tell that this is a Young Adult book because of the vocabulary used in it. It’s concise, intelligent and descriptive. It’s books like these that I want to applaud because these are the kind of books that make kids smarter. With the rich descriptions and setting, you kind of get a history lesson as well and I also love that the author doesn’t shy away from violence or injustice in this book. All of these things happen in the real world and it isn’t watered down for kids to consume in this book. It’s hardhitting and all the more exciting because of it.

Another thing that I like about this series are the character. We have quite a few characters in here that I’m obsessed with. That rarely happens in a book or series, but I do find myself having that strong connection with the characters. It makes reading very easy.

I will say though that this book does feel a tiny bit slower than the first book. Especially in the beginning, the author takes her time building things up so the first half feels slower than the latter. However, I do like the little twists and turns that this little book has. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. NOW I RISE is definitely my favorite Fantasy read of this year.
