Nevermore Bookstore by Kerrigan Byrne and Cynthia St. Aubin is a fun twist on small-town romance. Cady is the quirky, lovable owner of Nevermore Bookstore, who finds herself eagerly waiting for her Thursday night calls with the mysterious “Fox.” Fox is a stranger, but her best customer, calling weekly with a new book order. These phone calls, filled with banter, quickly become the highlight of her week. Even though she’s never met him.

But things take a dramatic turn when Cady’s call is interrupted by a break-in. Enter Roman Fawkes—our brooding recluse, living high in the mountains, who’s been ordering books and secretly falling for Cady. His rush to protect her is both heartwarming and thrilling. The chemistry between them is undeniable, even if Roman struggles with revealing his true identity.

The dynamic between Cady and Roman is both sweet and intense. Cady’s vibrant personality and the town in general bring a light-hearted touch. It’s a perfect blend of light suspense, romance, and humor that will keep you hooked until the last page. Plus, who doesn’t love a grumpy recluse with a heart of gold?

Was I completely surprised that this was co-written by Kerrigan Byrne, known for her darker stories? Yes, absolutely! This is so light-hearted and fun that I couldn’t find her usual touch. But I enjoyed it a lot nonetheless and will continue on reading the series. If you’re in the market for a romcom, this was a winner.
