“In the end, NAUGHTY BOSS was a fun and smart ass read.”
~ Under the Covers
If you are looking for a quick read with one of Whitney G’s asshole heroes then you may enjoy NAUGHTY BOSS. When I read this I didn’t know what to expect from these short stories. I was hoping for quick and sexy reads. And in a way that’s what this is. However, it may be the length or it may be the fact that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the heroine of this particular story, but something didn’t quite blow me away.
Michael is a successful businessman and goes through assistants so fast his partner decided to find him a new one that would be qualified for the job and hopefully would stick around. At the same time, he’s asked Michael to stop screwing around with a different woman every night so they can get some good press for a change instead of his wild antics on the tabloids. When Mya starts working for Michael she’s perfect for the job. But he also wants to make a move on her but his hands are tied since he promised to keep it in his pants.
There were things about Michael’s personality that I liked because, lets face it, I liked the jerks this woman writes! But there were things that also grated on me and others I just couldn’t believe. His quick turnaround and his completely focused attention on Mya didn’t come thru for me. I thought their connection felt a bit more superficial and sexual than an actual romance. So maybe that’s where I think this would’ve been better as a full length. The chemistry and sparks were there but the end result was not believable like I wanted.
And then there’s Mya. A bit immature, irrational and maybe not my favorite heroine. I found the emails between her and the best friend were funny but also I kept thinking how such a smart woman wouldn’t know that anything she was doing, writing, emailing on a work computer would be on company servers and accessible by management. The emails between her and Michael were sexy, even with his bossy attitude. I also wasn’t impressed with how she thought she was getting back at her boss by taking longer to do the tasks he asked. Frankly, I thought she was childish and unimaginative most of the time.
As for the steam part of the steamy coffee collection… I thought this would be steamier! Yes, there’s some good scenes but so few and far between that it just makes me think again that this should’ve been developed into a full length to do the story justice. In the end, NAUGHTY BOSS was a fun and smart ass read.
