ARC Review: My Enemy Next Door by Nicole London and Whitney G.

There’s always something addictive about reading a Whitney G. book and while I’ve never read Nicole London before, I imagine her writing style matches Whitney’s in that this book felt like a seamlessly fun story that delivered exactly the signature Whitney G feel I was expecting.  I’ll be sure to look out for more from Ms. London as well.

Back to this book.  There were some things about it that I loved.  The chemistry, the humor, the characters, the writing style.  Those things kept me turning the pages and interested in the outcome.

But there were also some things that could’ve been better and one thing in particular that I found immensely frustrating.  See this is a second chance romance, and I was actually pleased to see that the cocky hero in this one has always had a single minded focus that he’ll get to be Courtney’s forever.  Ever since they were in high school.  A crush turned into first and only love.

Some part of the story felt like there was no reason for them being there because there was no follow through on the outcome of them or even talk about them.  Like the thing with Jace’s ex at the beginning or Courtney’s high school BFF.  Then we come to my major complaint…. MISCOMMUNICATION.  Ugghhhhh how I loathe this trope.

So while I wish their story didn’t revolve around this trope, I did really like the characters and their chemistry so I still enjoyed the story.  I think a little longer resolution in the end would’ve probably been good too.

As always, I’ll be coming back for more stories from these authors.  The style is perfect for a quick pick-me-up story and they have a knack for crafting characters you’ll want to lock up in your boyfriend dungeon.
