What a wonderful surprise this book was!  I picked this up with no expectations just because I was in the mood for a cute and sweet historical romance.  Sometimes that’s the best mindset going into a story.  But I fell completely in love with this story from the very beginning!

Starts out a bit unconventional, with a woman chasing a man down a darkened alley.  The Mad Duke, as they call him, was looking to go drown his sorrows in a dive bar where he wouldn’t be recognized.  And he happened to be chased by a lady.  Conversation was light and fun, the anonymity of the situation adding to the appeal and the chemistry.  Until the mysterious lady disappears the next morning, taking with her the Duke’s pocket watch.

I loved Lily.  She’s a bit young and a bit reckless.  But she just doesn’t want to be confined to the life her brothers have aligned for her.  Even after losing her parents, she still has hopes to live a happy life.  Even if that may not include a man in the end.  She’s the perfect match for the Mad Duke, who has never been a fan of society and swore he would never marry.

Devon is my favorite type of hero.  A bit grumpy, very intelligent, with a great sense of humor and mischief.  Him and Lily are just the perfect match!  It was a delight to read about their adventures.

This book had me laughing and crying.  I loved Elizabeth Michels voice and I am looking forward to reading more in this series, which I think will become a favorite of mine!
