“THE FAULT IN OUR STARS is intense, emotional, and will leave you inevitably heartbroken and destroyed.” ~ Under the Covers

There are some stories that move you and you can forget about. ย This is not one of them. ย When I read THE FAULT IN OUR STARS it touched me, it broke me, it left me devastated for days. ย It’s the kind of story that’s beautiful and you can’t help but be happy that you were able to experience it, even as it truly hurts that you did. That being said, this might’ve been one of my most anticipated book to movie adaptations. ย I had heard already that it stayed true to the book and that most of the amazing quotes were all in there. ย So I was prepared to enjoy it going in. ย It didn’t disappoint, but also it exceeded every single one of them.

THE ACTING

Just amazing. ย I was truly surprised about this. ย I know Hazel and Augustus are played by the same actors that appear in DIVERGENT as brother and sister. ย But here’s the thing. ย The acting in that movie, although yes great, doesn’t pack the emotional punch that I think this story deserves. ย Well, let me tell you that the acting in THE FAULT IN OUR STARS will touch your heart, tug at it and make you weep with sorrow and laugh with joy. ย Augustus personality came through just as perfect, goofy and lovable as in the book. ย I wanted to hug him and cuddle him and kiss him. ย I was truly impressed.

THE STORY

Intense. ย We knew that. ย At least I knew that. ย But see I went with a friend who HADN’T read the book. ย And her opinion was this: “I didn’t realize this story would be so intense and emotional. ย I don’t think I’ve seen a movie so emotional in a while, and I could feel everything that happened.” ย Although obviously some things were shortened and cut, and some of the sadness about smaller story lines in the book didn’t feel as deep, the core story was so well developed that you couldn’t help but lose yourself in the few hours of screen time we got. ย Amazing job at doing this adaptation!

THE HEARTBREAK

Inevitable. ย You will be heart broken. ย Destroyed. ย As you know how the story goes, by the end of the movie the theater was filled with sounds of sobbing. ย So loud at times that we couldn’t hear the movie. ย Bring a Kleenex pack or box. ย You will need it. ย There won’t be a dry eye around, so don’t even feel embarrassed and just let it out! ย I know a lot of people stay away from books that can break their hearts like this (or movies). ย But sometimes, it’s just what you need. ย And yes, although there’s a sad ending, it also leaves you satisfied.

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH IT?ย

All of the above reasons. ย THE FAULT IN OUR STARS is intense, emotional, and will leave you inevitably heartbroken and destroyed. ย It will also leave you with a happy feeling in your heart (way at the back and underneath the buckets of tears). ย To be enjoyed by readers and non readers alike. ย Men and women. ย Of all ages.

  1. I’m DYING TO SEE THIS! I’m so excited we’re going tomorrow morning. I was seriously trying to talk the hubster into going to the Night before our stars but man… with traffic and work and life we weren’t sure we would get there in time to fight hundreds of teenagers.

I’m sooo glad it was good. Love the picture and yes, I’m bringing a box of tissues! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I cannot agree with you more. This is the type of book that stays with you always. I am so glad to hear that the acting did the story justice.

  3. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think my sister is there right now watching it and I know she didn’t bring Kleenex.

  4. I have not yet seen it or read the book, but have heard wonderful things about it. My teen son wants to see it, so maybe I’ll go see it with him soon. I just know that I am going to cry like a baby. Lol.
