Maya’s Laws of Love by Alina Khawaja
CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

Read this if you want:
- Divorced
- Road trip
- Enemies to lovers
Maya is convinced she’s cursed and will be unlucky forever. However, she’s ready for her life to move forward, so she’s headed to Pakistan for an arranged marriage with a doctor. But from the start of her trip, everything seems to go wrong and the cynical lawyer seated next to her on the plane doesn’t make it any better. They end up stranded in Switzerland, and she and Sarfaraz become unlikely travel companions through many travel snafus. Maya starts to wonder whether she’s meeting the right man just days before she marries someone else.
This book is technically a romance, but it’s definitely at least as much about Maya’s growth. She has an opportunity to really figure out who she is and what she wants out of life. I enjoyed reading about her navigating her culture and person desires and getting everything to align to give her the life she wants and needs.
Focusing on the romance parts of this story is a bit more disappointing. I don’t think that Sarfaraz has as much growth as I hoped for, so it was harder to fully root for them. The secondary characters were interesting and did add a lot of depth, though.
Overall, I do think this is a good read if you’re interested in seeing Maya’s character growth. You get a taste of touring both Switzerland and Pakistan, all without having to leave your couch.
