ARC Review: Marriage on Madison Avenue by Lauren Layne

It’s been quite a long time since I’ve read a Lauren Layne book but I was in the mood for a light and funny read that was set in NYC and this one definitely fit the bill. I really like the premise of this novel. Audrey Tate has just been betrayed in the biggest way when she learns that the man she was seeing was married and having another affair with another woman at the same time he was seeing her. To make matters worse, these three women all met at his funeral and somehow manage to strike up an unlikely friendship. It was unique and a little off-beat but I liked how different the concept was.

When we meet the main hero, Clarke West, I found him to be quite endearing. He’s been friends with Audrey for a long time so when they come up with a scheme to fool others, it’s not really one that I took too seriously. I think if you like lighter novels with a bit of humor, then this book will be a fun refresher. For me, I was really looking for some novels set in NYC and this book definitely delivers on the details. Since the author is a native, I definitely felt like she was able to capture the essence of the city wonderfully.

Since this is the first book in the series that I’ve read, I will no doubt go back and read the others. I’m still on the lookout for more NYC-based novels so I think Layne’s books will definitely help give me that city fix I’ve been craving.
