“Intrigued yet? You should be. ”
~ Under the Covers
Excuse me a minute whilst I shed a few tears… Why you ask? Because Marriage of Inconvenience is the last book in the Knitting in the City series! What am I supposed to do without my regular dose of Tuesday knit nights? Of the ladies hilarious shenanigans and unwavering support of one another? Of drooling over their hot HEAs? It’s a big concern, but I suppose I can always reread.
I’ve long anticipated Marriage of Inconvenience, or rather I’ve long anticipated Kat and Dan’s story, they’ve quietly had the hots for one another for most of the series and I knew it was bound to explode onto the page sooner or later. Only it seemed Reid chose to tell their story later, much much later as the finale in the series. Was it worth the wait? Did Kat and Dan live up to expectations? Yes, it was worth the wait. No, because it turned out Dan and Kat circumnavigated my expectations by not quite being who I thought they would be, but in a good way.
What I like about Penny Reid’s books is that although they have the prerequisite modern fairy tale feel of most contemporary romances, she tends to add an issue that it’s a bit closer to reality and maybe a twist or two to get you thinking. In Marriage of Inconvenience Reid drags out two tired old story devices: marriage of convenience and billionaires and messes with them a little. Then throws in the issue of the illusive female orgasm in for good measure. Tumble those three concepts in a brew of unrequited love and that gets you Marriage of Inconvenience. Intrigued yet? You should be.
If you are after an intelligent and funny contemporary romance than you need to give this book a try. However, I suspect that if you have read this far in the series you don’t need any more encouragement from me. However, if this is the first you are hearing of the Knitting in the City series, you have to go and try them out. They are all brilliant and unique in their own way and the last book in the series is no exception.
