Hi Tara welcome to Under the Covers, where we are massive fans of your work. We are so excited about LOVE & LISTS! Congrats on the release. Your Chocolate Lovers series is hilarious, does this come easy to you or does it take a few tries to get it just right?
Normally it comes pretty easy for me. I took a break between Troubles and Treats and Love and Lists to write a little more serious subject matter, so this time, it was a little harder to get back into the funny.
All your characters are pretty crazy, did you draw inspiration from your own life and people you know to write them?
I definitely draw from my own life. I’m surrounded by crazy people!
Care to share a story without naming anyone, of course?
OMG, there are so many true things in this series I don’t know where to start!! The one that sticks out the most would be the scene in Futures and Frosting where Claire and Carter have sex on the bachelorette party bus. That totally happened. We didn’t get pulled over by a cop, but I still have scars and bruises from that damn thing. Never have sex on a bus. It’s dangerous.
Which book was the hardest to write and which the the easiest? And why?
Love and Lists was the hardest just because it took me a little bit to find my funny again. The easiest was Troubles and Treats. Drew and Jenny practically write themselves because they are such idiots.
What is your favorite thing about LOVE & LISTS that readers have to look forward to?
Seeing Gavin as an adult and how much his family members have influenced him. And of course Drew and Gavin together – those were fun scenes to write 🙂
Would you recommend it for a newbie, since it’s a spin off, or to read in order?
I would definitely recommend it for a newbie. I made sure to tell a little history of the characters. People who read the books back when they first came out might have forgotten a few things so I wanted to make sure it would be easy for them to pick it up and remember their favorite people even though a lot of years have passed in the Chocolate Lovers world.
If you weren’t a writer what would be your dream job?
Professional reader or napper. Something that required absolutely no brain power.
Are you a careful planner or do you go with the flow?
I go with the flow. I try to plan things out but I never stick to the plan. If someone saw my notes they would probably lose their mind.
What is next for you after Love and Lists?
I’m currently writing a brand new, three-book series for Amazon’s Montlake Romance called the Fool Me Once series. It’s sort of a slapstick romantic suspense. I’m also finishing up the last two books in my Playing With Fire series. The Fool Me Once series will be out in 2014 and I’m hoping to have both Playing With Fire books out by the end of the year.
Love & Lists (Chocoholics #1) by Tara Sivec
Release Date: October 1, 2013
Love and Lists is the first book in the Chocolate Lovers spinoff – Chocoholics: The foul-mouthed offspring tell their stories.
Twenty-five-year-old Gavin Ellis has always had the love and support of his family ever since he was a little boy and couldn’t stop talking about his penis. He’s also always had their unsolicited advice and uncanny knack of embarrassing him at all costs. Now that he’s an adult and trying to convince the love of his life to love him back, things haven’t changed very much from when he was younger.
When Gavin’s best friend Tyler suggests he make a to-do list of items that will ensure he wins the girl, Gavin is one-hundred-percent on board: after a few six packs.
After puking in the shrubs, a bad experience with Viagra, a Sex-Ed course gone wrong, and a slew of other mishaps courtesy of his family and friends, Gavin is pretty sure this list will be the death of him.
Sometimes, trying to make someone love you with a list isn’t always the best idea. Especially when “Show her your penis” is the first “to-do” item…
