“LORD OF SHADOWS is definitely one of my favorite books this year.”
~ Under the Covers

Cassandra Clare returns with the second book in the Dark Artifices series. First off, I must say that you need to read this series in order. And I don’t mean just by reading the first book in this series. I mean that you have to start at the very beginning with CITY OF BONES, because that’s where it all starts. I would also suggest reading the Infernal Devices series as well because characters and storylines from that series also play a part here. That being said, Clare has managed to continue in this world, giving faithful readers something to be excited about. But never making it feel old or reused.

Simply put, I was blown away by this story. I really couldn’t believe that with this many books in the series that Clare had more interesting stories to tell, but she does a great job of delivering an epic book.

This was the first book that I tried in audio. Usually I will read the books in print. However, the narrator is James Marsters so I was eager to see how good he was. I really liked his narration. Listening to this series actually reminds me of my favorite series in audio, the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Both narrators put in an intimate vibe when you listen to it, so it feels like you’re not just in the character’s head, but in the same room as them. It was really fascinating. I don’t know if I will always continue in audio, but it’s definitely an option that I would consider after trying this one.

LORD OF SHADOWS is definitely one of my favorite books this year.

  1. Unfortunately, Clare lost me at city of lost souls. It’s unfortunate that all the books need to be read to be able to follow.
