ARC Review: Look for Me by Lisa Gardner

This is my first Lisa Gardner book but, I know it will not be my last. I loved it. Right from the start Look For Me hooked me in and I couldn’t put it down. This is actually the ninth book in the Detective D.D. Warren series, something I didn’t realise when I picked it up, however, although I have not read the previous books this didn’t detract from or hinder my understanding of the main story. However, there is history between the characters within the book where I didn’t understand the subtext or previous events, which means I am definitely going to go to book one and catch up.

Detective Warren and Flora Dane are both really strong female leads, Warren is a seasoned detective who is looking at the crime from a more analytical standpoint and Dane is a survivor of victimisation who helps other people in similar situations. They both a suspicious of one another but willing to aid each other finding the missing sixteen year old girl whose family has been murdered. Warren because she is a suspect and Dane because she believes she’s a victim.

But, although I loved the main character in this book, it was the story that had me glued to my kindle. With each piece of the past that is revealed, through Dane and Warrens investigations and also a set of heart breaking essays written by the teen, more questions are raised and more suspects are revealed. It was a nail biting story that also really pulled on the heart strings as you wonder how many more awful things could happen to one person, especially as aspects of the story reflect real life more than you would want them to.

This was a fantastic thriller with some strong leading characters and a powerful story line. I can’t wait to read more Lisa Gardner.
