LEVELED is the second book in the Blue Bay Crew by Cathryn Fox. Although this is not the first time I’ve read this author, it is my first book of this specific series. Since I was in the mood for something a little more sexier, I remember reading one of Fox’s past books so I decided to jump back into this newer series. I was intrigued by the blue collar heroes and the concept of this series. Sadly, the book didn’t quite meet up to my expectations.
My first issue with this book is that it is written in first person narration. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve read an Erotic Romance written this way so I really didn’t think it was the best way to convey the genre. Normally, I would be able to get over it. Or at least get used to it for the sake of finishing the book. However, I just couldn’t with this one and the reason is actually the second thing about this book that really didn’t sit well with me.
Since this book is first person, we get a lot of the inner thoughts of the hero, Jamie. Sadly, I didn’t like him. At all. I felt that being in his head was just so grating. He sounded so dumb. I struggled with being in his head so much.
I didn’t think the heroine was that much better. This story is about a bad boy and a rich girl. I found that this book didn’t offer much apart from that. So unfortunately, I will not be continuing on with this series.

I ARC read it too and had much the same feeling…REALLY didn’t like the first person. The switching back and forth drove me nuts. I’m glad I wasn’t alone with this feeling. I was a little more sympathetic with the h/h but I powered through. I was really glad I could give feedback to the author & publisher about what was bothering me.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this way. I usually like Fox’s writing style though.
