Sidney Sinclair had a bad breakup that involved her fiancรฉ cheating on her with his personal trainer. Still fresh from the betrayal, Sidneyโ€™s sister decides to get married, at the same place where her wedding was supposed to be. Although she knows that all this is happening too fast, Sidney is a good, supportive sibling and puts her feelings aside to help her sister.

In doing this, she also has to be around the type of man that Sidney rather not consort with. Special Agent Vaughn Roberts is the ultimate bad boy with a gun. He likes women and he likes dating and that immediately puts up Sidneyโ€™s guard when she is around him. However, despite the animosity between them, there is also a spark that is undeniable and quite entertaining!

If youโ€™ve read Jamesโ€™s other book, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, then youโ€™ll know how wonderful she is at penning characters who hate each other. Much of that fantastic bickering and competitiveness comes out between Sidney and Vaughn as well. As they both try very, very hard to deny their feelings for one another, readers get a front seat view of the hilarious and fun-filled antics. Trust me when I say that you will thoroughly enjoy this book and be smiling from ear-to-ear with when youโ€™re done.

Jamesโ€™s writing seems particularly polished in this book. Free-flowing and eloquent, thereโ€™s a certain upbeat tempo that plays throughout the book. It sets the tone adequately, giving it that playful, sexy vibe that transcends through the pages. I was particularly impressed by the opening chapter. Not only does it make a great impression, but itโ€™s probably one of my favourite openings Iโ€™ve read in awhile.

Sidney is a fantastic character. Strong and independent, the girl certainly knows what she wants when it comes to the perfect man. I loved that Vaughn was brought to his knees a little. Yet at the same time, James didnโ€™t compromise with his bad boy status either. I think the author did a really good job at balancing that.

IT HAPPENED ONE WEDDING possesses the Julie James trademark snark and fun-filled antics. With sexy and smart writing, Julie James continues to be one of my go-to authors for Contemporary Romance.
