We’ve said this before, but we’ll say this again… Roni Loren is quickly becoming one of our favorite authors, and we are so excited that she’s here with us today!ย  With her latest release FALL INTO YOU, Loving on the Edge is one of those series you won’t want to miss.ย  Please help us welcome her to UTC today!
Hi Roni and welcome back!ย  You write some steamy sex scenes! Do you ever find yourself looking over your shoulder as you write one out because you know it’s “too sexy”? Have you ever had had to cut down or remove certain parts of a love scene? If so, can I read the original?
Luckily, since I write from my home office, I donโ€™t have to do too much looking over my shoulder. : ) But in the beginning, with the first book, I remember being self-conscious about the sex scenes–is this too sexy? What will people think? What will my family think? Yadda, yadda, yadda. And nothing will kill a sex scene quicker than worrying about your dad reading it. Ack.
So I had to learn to turn that worry off and just write what is right for the characters. And no, Iโ€™ve never scaled back a sex scene because it was too sexy. If anything, I sometimes amp them up, lol. And I know that some scenes are riskier than others (i.e. in Fall Into You, thereโ€™s a role playing scene that some people have declared their favorite of the book and others have declared too much.) So itโ€™s always a risk. : )
Do you ever write in the buff?ย ย ย  Ha!
*snort* The last thing I want to see while Iโ€™m writing is me naked, lol. My books are brought to you exclusively by T-shirts and yoga pants. : )
Many authors get their ideas from everyday life. Do you have a story to share where your real-life experience has influenced your writing?
My own life always sneaks into my writing in some ways. For instance, in the first book, the heroine was a social worker and that was my former career. But FALL INTO YOU is probably the most personal book Iโ€™ve ever written because Charli, the heroine, is very close to my personality. I was the tall, awkward, tomboy growing up (and still have a lot of that in me). I played sports instead of going to dance class like the other girls. I was the girl guys wanted to be friends with, not date. So I had (still have at times) those same insecurities that Charli does about not being dainty, cute, or girly enough.
OK ok fine, lets talk about LOVING ON THE EDGE.ย  Your latest release, FALL INTO YOU, features the awesome Grant.ย  A bit of a cowboy and a lot of a Dom.ย  First tell us about your inspiration for him because I need to know about your Blake Shelton ideas. ๐Ÿ™‚
Well, Grant showed up in book one kind of by surprise. I knew someone would have to own The Ranch, but I didnโ€™t originally plan for it to be some mysterious cowboy. But there he was, popping up in my brain as such. So I wrote him that way then went on the hunt for an inspiration pic. Well, there was Blake Shelton just waiting for me. ; )ย  And that was before Blake got on The Voice or became so much more visible. Now heโ€™s everywhere–and Iโ€™m not complaining. But heโ€™s the perfect visual inspiration for Grant.
What is your favorite thing about him as a Dom and as a character?
Grant is fiercely loyal, which is both an asset and a curse, and he has a tremendous sense of duty and responsibility. He may not tell you what you want to hear, but heโ€™s going to be honest with you. Heโ€™s someone youโ€™d want in your corner…and your bed. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Do you have a favorite scene from that book?ย  Care to share?
Thereโ€™s a scene with Grant and Charliโ€™s cat (named Tom Brady) that wasย  a lot of fun to write. But my favorite is probably when Grant finds Charliย  in the dark in a puddle of mud, half-drunk and upset. What happens afterward when Grant tries to help her clean up is one of those scenes I wish I could see on the big screen.
Inquiring minds want to know… when can we expect a book for Kade?ย  Mmmmmmm
Kade will get a book, but heโ€™s third in line right now. First, Ian Foster (from STILL INTO YOU) will get his story told via an E-serial called NOT UNTIL YOU this summer (a novel released in 8 parts over 8 weeks). Then CAUGHT UP IN YOU (Wyatt and Kelseyโ€™s story) will be out in August. After that will be Kadeโ€™s book. So probably Spring of 2014. But you will get to see more of Kade in CAUGHT.
How many books do you have planned in the series?
Itโ€™s open-ended at this point. Four more books, including the e-serial, are the definites–the three I listed above plus Colbyโ€™s story.
If you could summarize your series in a tweet, what would it be?
Steamy, southern BDSM romances with a little humor, a serving of kink, a lot of heart, and characters you hopefully can fall in love with.
If we were unforgivably rude and pulled at random five things from your hand bag, what would we find?
Anti-bacterial gel (because Iโ€™m a germ freak), my Iphone (because Iโ€™m addicted), a Hot Wheels car (because always good to have one on back-up for the kidlet), packets of Sweet N Low (because so many restaurants only give you Splenda–blech), and a Sharpie (because itโ€™s amazing how often I need one.)
What’s next for Roni Loren?
Iโ€™m currently finishing up writing the E-serial since thatโ€™s the next thing that will be out. Then I get to start writing Kadeโ€™s book. : )
fallintoyou

Heโ€™ll do anything for you. But youโ€™d better say please.

When tomboy sports reporter Charli Beaumonde loses a dream TV job because sheโ€™s not girly enough for primetime, sheโ€™s determined to land a big scoop and prove her boss made a mistake. But when she gets too close to a football scandal and finds her life threatened, Charli accepts an offer from family friend Grant Waters to hide out at his placeโ€”even if Grant predicts nothing but trouble from his buddyโ€™s hard-headed, uncompromising, irrepressible, younger sister. Thereโ€™s one more problemโ€ฆ

Grantโ€™s โ€œplaceโ€ is The Ranch, a BDSM resort in Texas, and heโ€™s used to being in charge โ€”even if that means trying to keep Charli in line. But much to Grantโ€™s surprise, sheโ€™s intriguedโ€”even enviousโ€”of his trainees. Theyโ€™re the epitome of what sheโ€™s never been: sexy, beguiling, and totally irresistible to a man. Still, Grant doesnโ€™t believe for a minute that the sharp-tongued Charli has it in her to be anyoneโ€™s submissive. But Charliโ€™s already on her knees vying for the chance to prove that even the Master can be wrong sometimes.

Fun Stuff from Roni’s website:

CHARACTER PLAYLIST…

Grant from FALL INTO YOU:

  • The Cowboy Rides Away by George Strait – I listened to a LOT of old school country when writing FALL and this one really reminds me of Grant. He gets close and then backs off and rides away.
  • The Cowboy in Me by Tim McGraw – Yes, lots of cowboy songs. So I’m not subtle.
  • Don’t Take the Girl by Tim McGraw – This one makes me think of Grant, but I can’t listen to it too often because the damn thing makes me cry every time.

Charli from FALL INTO YOU:

  • Something to Someone by Lit – Charli has a chip on her shoulder and a lot to prove.
  • (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin – Charli is a tomboy and doesn’t feel very girlie (until she meets Grant of course)
About the author:

Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills havenโ€™t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has.ย Though sheโ€™ll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son.

If sheโ€™s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars, er, rock concerts. Yeah, that’s it. She is the National Bestselling Author of The Loving on the Edge series from Berkley Heat.
