Hi Molly and welcome to Under the Covers!

As a new adult writer, who has had massive success, what is it about this genre that called to you originally and made you pick it as your writing genre of choice?

I actually didn’t pick it, per se. I just began writing what I was interested in. I was almost 22 when I first began writing, and am still only 24, so it was natural to write the age group I was already in since that’s what I knew.

When writing Taking Chances, did you know going in what would happen to Chase?

Uh, NO! No, I sure didn’t! I knew she would end up with Brandon, that was always something very obvious to me even though at the time I was Team Chase. I was just trying to make him move away, or find something else … anything other than what happened. When I began writing it that night, it just started coming out. I sat there sobbing and saying “No, no, no, no…” as I wrote it. It was just as much a shock to me, as it was to y’all.

Are you Team Brandon or Team Chase?

Originally, I was Team Chase. There was NOTHING remarkable about Brandon, he was the same as Chase … except for some reason I’d fallen in love with Chase and not him. Even after the “incident that shall not be named”, I kept thinking “I KNOW Harper’s supposed to be with him, but why would she love him if I don’t love him?” and then it hit me and I went back and changed Brandon’s character to the “sweetheart” we see him as today. And that fighter/sweetheart absolutely STOLE MY HEART and that is when I switched to TEAM BRANDON.

Did you plan on writing Stealing Harper?

No, I didn’t. Some of the first groups of girls I began talking with after Taking Chances came out were all telling me they needed more Chase, that they didn’t have enough time with him, they didn’t get to know all he thought about certain things. And I couldn’t have agreed more. I thought it would be one of those books people either needed for closure, or ran away from screaming because they still couldn’t get past Taking Chances. But I’m so glad I wrote it, his story needed to be heard!

What was your favorite thing about being able to write it?

Just getting to know him better! There were so many times where I would just sit back, completely gutted, and think “I didn’t know he felt that way!” And I absolutely fell in love with him all over again … I loved getting to know Chase.

I see that you’re traveling everywhere. How many miles have you put in your car? LOL!

HA! Oh, dear. Umm … like almost 7K just in the last two months! hahah

Some of the topics and scenes you write must be as hard to write as they are to read. Was there one particular scene that you had a hard time getting through and on paper?

I’ve actually sat here trying to think of a scene I could share with you from a book that is already out, but because this scene is so raw to me … it’s all I can think about. It’s from Deceiving Lies, and unfortunately all I can say is that this book has taken a turn I didn’t think it would, and watching the characters change before my eyes, and doing what is necessary for the given situations has been emotionally exhausting. There was this one just last week that when I finished it, all I wanted to do was sit in a corner and rock back and forth as I cried. I didn’t know how I felt about what happened, and I didn’t know how I felt about how I had delivered it … or if I was even okay now that it was done. I walked out of my office and saw my husband watching TV and was just standing there like “What do I do? How do I go back to that?” … and I’m sure that just made y’all want Deceiving Lies NOW. Haha, unfortunately, since it’s Forgiving Lies’ sequel, it won’t be out til 2014

FORGIVING LIES is coming out in October! What can you tell us about it?

Ahh I’m so excited about this book. I don’t want to tell y’all too much, because I’ll just start rambling and tell y’all the whole thing 😉 Just know that it is still very much a love story, but there is also a thriller/mystery thing going on and it is BY FAR my favorite book I’ve written. Kash and Rachel’s friendship and relationship is the funnest of all my couples, and I had so much fun writing their story.

Do you have a writing process? Do you have to listen to music, have complete silence, write only on a full moon?

Hahaha I have to have music on. I prefer it to be dark in the room and have music on. Otherwise I start staring at other things in the room and get distracted. And if the TV is on, then NOTHING gets done. Even if it’s on mute.

What authors are on your must buy list?

Nicholas Sparks, A.L. Jackson, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Kristen Ashley, Kristen Proby … I could go on and on!

What can we look forward from you in the future? And is there going to be any heartache like in Taking Chances?

Just expect there to be a lot of changes. It will still be New Adult, it will still be contemporary romance … but I’m definitely branching away from what you’ve seen so far with Taking Chances, From Ashes, and Stealing Harper. I can’t promise no one will die in my books, but I really don’t think there would never be another Taking Chances scene. I don’t know if I could take it.
